“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step."

A part of my job (for those of you who don't know, I am no longer mixing up cocktails, but rather educating and inspiring people while selling them athletic clothing and apparel), I am in charge of updating motivational quotes to the store's facebook page daily. Quotes like:

Goals are the fuel in the furnace of achievement.
-Brian Tracy

"Action may not always bring happiness; but there is no happiness without action" -Benjamin Disraeli

"Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."
- Thomas Edison

Now, if you have asked me 6 months ago what I thought about these words, I would have told you that it was a bunch of hoooey. But after passing along daily motivation to others, I could not help but be inspired myself to chase my dream.

My favorite quote that I have come across has been:
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." it is a passage from the Tao Te Ching, a book my father had given me on my 13th birthday. I still have the copy that he gave me, inscribed with the some beautiful words. The quote rings true, I cannot get to where I want to be, (insert cool, creative job here), living in (insert cool, ocean-front city here) without taking some steps to get there, so, I got my resume together, and am sending it out everywhere I may like to be, for summer internships. I am not going to get there if I don't try, right??

It is my first step in the journey of a thousand miles, well, I guess CreComm would be the first step... this is the second or third ;)

I hope this post inspires you to take the first step towards your journey of accomplishing your dreams.

New Year, New Look.

It was time. Time to come to terms with my current reality: I am no longer a beach bum living in paradise, swimming in crystal clear waters and walking along white sand beaches everyday... So why didn't my hair reflect that?

I had been a bleach blonde for the better part of four years, and there is some comfort in being blonde:
•men always notice you, I think it is in their dna to turn their head for any fair-haired woman who enters their line of sight.
•when you say dumb things, you can simply blame it on your hair color.

I had been thinking about going over to the dark side for some time, but it took a bruised heart and a New Year to make me want to make such a drastic change. It came with the results that I had hoped for: people commented that I looked smarter, (someone actually said "you don't look as stupid as you did before") more sophisticated, and more suited for this student/emerging professional phase of my life.

Now I am out to answer the age-old question: do blondes really have more fun??
So far, I would beg to differ ;)

I felt my blog needed a bit of a facelift to go along with my new pic... I would like to thank Alex Rohne for being the inspiration for both.

Brown Eyed-Girl
•1oz Vanilla Vodka
•1oz Kaluah
•Coke
•Milk

•In a glass full of ice, pour in Vanilla Vodka and Kaluah, then the coke (it is imperative to pour the coke in before the milk), and lastly, the milk. Top with a cherry and have a great weekend!

Bring on the Bubbly!

To my dearest Bloggers, its been too long since my last confession, I apologize.

Even though I swore it wouldn't happen... I let the holidays get the best of me: working harder than Santas elves, taking and editing photos for my first issue as Photo Editor for the school newspaper, catching up with old friends I was forced to put on the back burner since CreComm has taken over my life..... It barely even felt like a holiday at all!

But now it is back at 'er, in full swing. Not to worry, there are plenty more Cocktails and Dreams in store ;)

to start off the New Year, here is a low-cal cocktail to help you keep your resolution without having to give up your Friday night happy hour.

Taylor Royale

-.5 oz Crème de Cassis (raspberry flavoured liqueur)
-.5 oz raspberry vodka
- 5 oz sparkling white wine
-frozen raspberries

-in a champagne flute pour in the Cassis and raspberry vodka, top with the sparkling wine. Add frozen raspberries. Cheers!
